Property tax relief for veterans
Veterans with a total and permanent service-connected disability may claim an exemption from property taxes on their home and the lot it sits on, as well as on private passenger vehicles. A recent change lets qualifying veterans claim the exemption retroactively for a limited period if they paid their taxes on time.
South Carolina's separate homestead exemption also covers homeowners who are totally and permanently disabled.
How to apply: Apply through the South Carolina Department of Revenue, with certification of your disability from the VA or your county veterans service officer.
