VA Loans in District of Columbia
Washington, D.C. offers its own homestead deduction for veterans with a total and permanent service-connected disability. The federal VA loan benefit is the same in every state: eligible buyers can buy with no down payment and competitive rates.
District of Columbia benefits for veterans
Property tax relief for veterans
Veterans classified by the VA as totally and permanently disabled from a service-connected condition, or paid at the total disability rate due to unemployability, may qualify for a significant reduction in the assessed value of their home.
The home must be the veteran's principal residence, the veteran must live in the District, and household income has to fall under the city's limit. This deduction replaces the standard homestead deduction rather than adding to it.
How to apply: Apply through the DC Department of Community Affairs online application, or contact the Mayor's Office of Veterans Affairs for help.
